Headshots That Actually Look Like You: How to Prepare

Most people dread getting their headshot taken. They don't like how they look in photos, they don't know what to wear, and they're worried it'll feel awkward. Here's the secret: a great headshot isn't about looking perfect. It's about looking like the person people will meet when they walk into your office or hop on a call with you.
Know where it's going
A LinkedIn photo, a hospital staff page and a speaker bio for a conference all need something a little different. Tell your photographer where the photo will live so you get the right crop, background and feel.
Wear what you'd wear to meet a client
Solid colors beat busy patterns. Pick something that fits well and that you'd actually wear on a good workday. Bring a second option, especially a jacket or a different color top, so you have choices.

Skip the big changes right before
A fresh haircut the day before can look a little too fresh. Get it cut about a week out. Drink water, get some sleep, and leave the brand-new skincare experiment for another week.
Let the photographer do the work
My job is to make it feel easy. I'll guide your posture, your chin and your expression, and we'll talk the whole time so you forget the camera is there. The best shot almost always comes after the first few minutes, once you relax.

Book yours
I photograph individual and team headshots for businesses across the Upper Cumberland, in my studio or at your office. You'll get a private online gallery to download and share. Request a headshot session.
